I have got a problem with launching the Gaussian program after the installation of Gaussianview 5.0.9 software. When launching the application, it gives a warning message, ''failed to locate main Gaussian directory'' even though it is there. On clicking ''ok'', it will then display ''will not be able to execute Gaussian using the following command-line...(see the attached screenshot). Clicking 'ok' further will launch the program but won't submit a job after the Gaussian calculation set-up as the submission button remains inactive.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? if yes, how did you go about resolving it?
Hi Jude! According to what you have said, you have installed Gaussianview 5.0.9 software, but you didn't mention at all that you have install Gaussian09. So the first software is a molecular graphics which doesn't include Gaussian09. You have to install the computational program itself now. Also you will need to specify where your executables are situated for Gaussianview 5.0.9 after the installation of Gaussian09.

As mentioned by Dr. Ermilova, you need to install both Gaussian (software that does all the calculations) and Gaussview (Graphical user interface for Gaussian) to work as intended. If Gaussian is already installed, in most cases Gaussview will able to detect its installation location and will automatically add the path of Gaussian. If that is not happening, I will suggest first checking whether your Gaussian09 or Gaussian16 has installed properly.
Even if after installing Gaussian the same error persists in Gaussview, just open Gaussview (ignore the error) go to File> Preferences >Job Setup, and check the bottom of the window. The installation path of gaussian should ideally be present there (e.g., @GXXW=C:\Users\G09W\G09W.exe). If not, just select "Execute using custom command line" (check attached file) and then click on "browse for executable file" (bottom right) and select Gaussian09 executable. Save and exit. It should work now.
