If you're using typical DLS (Malvern or others) the refractive index and dielectric constant will be that of the liquid (DMF). It seems like you want them for the liquid not the material, am I right?
Yes sean. I am using malvern. But the problem is, I am diluting the dmf with water. The dispersant is dmf with water. Any idea on how to calculate the RI and dielectric constant for the dispersant? I am not familiar using the dls.
If you have a refractometer you can measure the RI of the mixture at the Na D line. Otherwise I'm sure there is a calculation in the literature that will enable you to calculate the RI of simple binary mixtures. I feel like it should be the same for the dielectric constant. Have you looked around for literature on binary mixtures?
