In an image I have to set colormap as gray, and I need the min color to be white and max color to be gray. by default min color is black and max color is white. How can I customize this using a command?
and how can the image due to imagesc command can be adjusted in figure at desired position?

you just plot your image and then in your image you can go to last icon in up-right (show plot tools and dock figure) , you can see this icon in attached image.
and left-click on it's color bar and then right click on it , and then click on "open colormap editor" ,
now you can change it ,
then you can use this :
c=colormap;
and then when you like use this color map, just use this :
colormap(c);

In addition to the helpful and detailed reply by @Milad Rahnama, I suggest that you try the following:
While you are in Matlab, type
edit colormap
When you do this, the source code for colormap will be displayed, starting with
function map = colormap(arg1,arg2)
%COLORMAP Color look-up table.
% COLORMAP(MAP) sets the current figure's colormap to MAP.
% COLORMAP('default') sets the current figure's colormap to
% the root's default, whose setting is JET.
% MAP = COLORMAP retrieves the current colormap. The values
% are in the range from 0 to 1.
% COLORMAP(AX,...) uses the figure corresponding to axes AX
% instead of the current figure.
% COLORMAP(FIG,...) when FIG is a figure , the colormap on FIG is set.
Now you can modify the source code to tailor it to your needs. I suggest that you your rename the colormap function (e.g., MyColormap) and use that instead of the built-in colormap function.
To set colormap to 'gray' and reverse it, the command is:
>>colormap(flipud(colormap('gray')));
If you still want to customize this colormap - say, to end in the gray color instead of black - you will have to define the value of the colors in a new matrix (newColormap) based on the gray scale colormap. For example:
>>intensity = 50; %choose from 1 to 64, where 64 will range to a full black color and 1 will make everything white
>>newColormap = colormap(flipud(colormap('gray')));
>>newColormap = newColormap(1:intensity,:);
>>colormap(newColormap);
For your second question, imagesc is to scale your image. If you are willing only to reposition your figure and set its width and height, I suggest doing:
>>set('gcf','Position',[x y w h]);
where 'x' and 'y' is the position of the left-inferior corner of your figure, 'w' is the width and 'h' is the height of your figure.

I have the same question regarding this issue. Let's say we want to plot a rainbow colormap BUT we want to set the minimum color as white instead of dark blue. How do we do that? Please note that I don't want to do it manually using the editor.
Note: solved for my case above, use jet_white (we may download it first)

colormap winter
colormap summer
colormap gray
colormap autumn
colormap default
colormap hot
