I work in an Aged Persons Mental Health Inpatient Unit and I like to know how communication technologies can be used by nurses to better communicate with patients from non speaking english backgrounds. I would like to know what communications technologies are being used in healthcare.

usually we have a translator available to help to communicate with non-English speaker, you don't need to hire him/her, you can utilize the nurses or staff who speak other languages as a translation bank
Krankenpfleger und anderes Personal im Haus werden häufig für Übersetzungen genutzt, das hat jedoch nicht immer Vorteile. Die reguläre Arbeit blieb „liegen“ und musste später nachgeholt werden, da es auch kein Kollege übernahm oder wegfallen konnte. Das hat die helfenden „Übersetzer“ missmutig gemacht. Wir nutzen seit einiger Zeit IPad´s, dort ist ein Programm installiert welches Zugriff auf Livedolmetscher gewährt. Dem Patienten entstehen dadurch aber Kosten.
