Soak the seeds in the dispersion of metal nanoparticles increases the yield. The concentration of nanoparticles used in two - three orders of magnitude smaller than their marginal toxic concentration. See our articles
I can atleast about the improvement in nutrient-use-efficiency utilizing the nano size of solid fertilizers , either alone or in combination with organic manures/composts. Nowdays , nano-packaging is also utilizing the same concept in extending the shelf life of value added products sold in packaged form.
Prof, that's a very good point of view but i have a question, i might be wrong but you can direct me to the right answer. now adays scientists are working on organic farming and the organic farming is trending. if the nano tech is helping in inorganic nutrients so is it still possible that nanotech in this regard will not come in the way of organic farming.
actually i am not to clear in this regard so that's why i want to make my self clear about it.
I'm very interested by this discussion. I'm working on organic amendement and fertilization. I'm also waiting responses about the good question of Dr. Husain.
Please Dr. Garima send me your article collection about the potential of nanotechnology in agriculture, I can't see it in your response.
Dr. Anoop i'm so interested to read about the relationship between nanoparticles and plant nutrient use effeciency of organic amendment or fertilizer (manure, compost, compost tea, digestate...)please send me your references in this topic.
Thanks Dr Nejib for flagging some interesting issues. I will surely send you some literature on these issues. Let me toss up an issue relating to the particle size of biochar ( Nealy 40-50m2 specific surface area per gram of biochar , if I am not wrong ) , the specific surface of which is largely dependent upon the temperature of pyrolysis of different feedstocks . The multi-functional role of biochar is well documented and so well researched , simply due to nano size of the biocahar ?
Husain , I strongly feel and you are right in a way , that , whether you use inorganic or organic fertilizers and applied into the soil , nano size of the fertilizers will always have much higher fertilizer-use-efficiency , simply because of the much higher surface area is exposed for either microbes to act on or for the other dissociating factors to disintegrate applied fertilizers to the crop.
Weeds are reducing agricultural yields loss up to 30–40% depending
on the infestation intensity. Conventional weedicide loose their values in the absence of moisture content. Encapsulating nano material in weedicides helps to regulate release of herbicide molecules.
Thank you for your kind answers Prof Anoop, Kumar and Abhishek Raj. the attached pdfs are very interesting and I think some research work should be carried out in this field to explore the diverse mechanism in plants and agriculture sector.
