How can I test collinearity and correlation between the independent variables in binary logistic regression using SPSS version 20, some variables are categorical ,others are continuous ?
But I would like ask about correlation between categorical or dummy variables, spearman and pearson correlation are for continuous and ordinal variables respectively,What about my categorical variables such as gender, education, comorbidites ?
Also how can I test collinearity between these variables in regression model by SPSS software ?
When there are continuous independent variables, then we can use VIF to assess collinearity between independent variables as in linear models. Complexity in assessing collinearity arises when we have categorical independent variables in which use of VIF is insensitive for categorical independent variables. In such cases we have to examine whether there exists significant association or collinearity between such variables through chi-square test, contingency coefficient, etc.
