im working in resource limited lab in uganda but l was wondering whether there is a cost effective technique l would use to stain dopaminergic neurons and get valid results? thank you so much in advance.
Dear Daniel, To get nice results you have to try immunohistochemistry. The biosynthesis of dopamine from tyrosine occurs via two step processes. The first step is catalyzed by tyrosine hydroxylase and results in the production of DOPA.The second one is catalyzed by DOPA decarboxylase and results in the production of Dopamine. The biochemical difference between the noradrenergic neurons and dopaminergic neurons is the presence of the enzyme dopamine-beta-hydroxylase. You can use in your immunohistochemical method(immunofluorescence) antibodies to tyrosine hydroxylase(TH), if it is no a problem for this difference to you .
