I'm trying to make an insulating layer that is less than 5 micron meter on gold (100nm thick gold deposited on 13 um PI film, length x width: 1 x 1 cm^2).
Since we don't have facilities for deposition process, I wanted to use spincoating.
So, I spin coat PMMA on gold and it was quite a good insulating layer but boundary region.
PMMA can't cover all the boundary of gold and current flows through that boundary.
Is there any easy method to prevent this issue?
I already tried dip-coating and spray coating, but still boundary region was not covered by the insulating material..
I doubt the spin coating will provide coverage on the boundary. Dip coating (multiple times) is probably the best approach.
Spin coating can never coat PMMA at the edges better than shown in the photo. I prefer dip coating as Peter mentioned. Or just etch the sides; I am not sure if you like it.
The surface energy of gold films is vital to be covered by PMMA. Ideally you should have a plasma Asher treatment on the surface of a gold film. The power should not be more than 40W and duration is about 3mins. Hope it helps.
