I need to use matlab to get the displacement and velocity time history of the 3 degree of freedom system (image attached). i can use any numerical method or ode45 but one of the element in third equation has sigma of udot which cannot be taken as constant. Kindly help how to solve these type of equations?

If you have been using ode45 to solve ODEs, the you should be familiar with defining the time-varying σ'(t) in the function handle, dydt = odefun(t,y). Perhaps, you can show the codes and we will see how to improve your codes. 💾

Actually i searched a lot but i am not getting how to write that element because it depends on u which is itself a displacement of liquid and its variable. i can use ode 45 just for x,y,u which are my three variables. but how to make use of ode 45 in defining σ'(u).

Dear Yew-Chung Chak σ_u is the standard deviation of the response u. u is the velocity of liquid in tuned liquid column damper. Please have a look into page 2 of reference.
Hi Nayan Deep Tiwari, now the picture is getting clearer. If you assign u' = y(6), then the standard deviation, σ(u') can be expressed as std(y(6)) in the function handle, dydt.
