Now, I want to solve a question: the impact on the changes of carbon balance caused by the effects of land use and land change cover (LUCC) in regional or much grander scale. To achieve my goal, I preliminary plan to like the following: (1) choosing a suitable biological model based on remote sensing and process mechanism model; (2) choosing a suitable region, e.g. forest/ reforest region; (3) using the same forcing data sets ( remote sensing, meteorological data, soil texture and carbon dioxide, etc ) to run the model with various LUCC (e.g. the year of 1980, 1990 or 2000 ). However, I don't know how do I work out the question about initial field or equilibrium state in different LUCC scenarios. Additionally, I want to know how the field going about your research. are you interested in historical time period or future time period and for what region? Do you have any specific land-use change data that you would like to use to calculate the terrestrial carbon budget?

As far as I can understand, your goal is very ambitious. Models to predict productivity from soil-water-weather conditions are already complex and sometimes unprecise. To add the problem of Carbon balance (which is only recently studied) using a BIOLOGICAL MODEL that would be based on REMOTE SENSING (GIS) appears to me as pretty difficult.
I would search for the carbon balance in land use changes that already are registered, and from them would develop a model in GIS.
