First, it is better to use the explicit algorithm to perform impact simulations (you can use implicit too).

The attached file contains two models, one for impact in a metal plate, and the other for impact using a VUMAT.

You can easily change the stell (or the user material) material for composite laminate, and then perform the impact analysis.
