You could report the typical Salmonella colonies as suspicious/presumptive for the target organisms; other background flora could also be counted and reported;

After that you have to pick 5 representative Salmonella colonies at least from the agar - transfer it to an unselective agar to get more material from each single colony;

Then you confirm this colonies as true Salmonella spp.-e.g. Agglutination with different polyvalent/omnivalent Sera;

You could confirm it according ISO 6579 if you work with food or feedingstuffs;

If you are independent from standards you could also confirm your colonies by PCR method targeting different genes as invA, fim....

In the case of Brlliant Green then Salmonella will be be pink-red, but as Beatrix says confirmation is a good idea. The methods above are ideal. It should be noted that other species than Enterobacteriacae can grow on Brilliant Green-in fact lots of Enterobacteria will not. Pseudomonads, given their diversity, can be a problem.

These can be interpreted as presumptive salmonella. As per ISO prescribed method, u must pick 5 typical colonies and perform biochemical tests and agglutination tests. The proportion of confirmed salmonella will indicate total confirmed salmonella from ur plate. e.g 3 out of 5 confirmed salmonella and total number of presumptive salmonella on plate was 100, hence salmonella present on plate=3/5 * 100 = 60. u may need to multiply by the dilution factor and express ur result as CFU/g or weight of sample taken.

I agree with the answer of Beatrix to verify the identity of isolates and as the Brilliant Green agar isn't the most suitable specific selective for Salmonella you should consider first the enrichment step as recommended by Teodoro

If you plated the brilliant green agar following a plate count technique, and you plated directly from a sample or a dilution of such sample, then you can count Salmonella but only after you confirm the typical colonies to actually be Salmonella. Identification methods have been already mentioned here by others.  If your isolation on brilliant green came from an enrichment or preenrichment broth, then you cannot count since the microorganisms have already grown and therefore the counts will not represent the concentration actually present in the sample. Again, you would need to first confirm that your typical colonies are indeed Salmonella,  and then in the later case, you can only report Salmonella positive or negative in the specific amount of sample that you tested.
