I would like to identify the crystal structure of Ti oxides in MAO coatings. However, the crystallinity is too small that is not possible to observe distinct peaks from the bulk sample. Therefore, I am planning to remove the MAO coating and use it in the XRD. But, how the best way to remove the coating?

Titanium reacts with concentrated hydrochloric acid (30% HCl), but titanium dioxide does not react. So you can replace TiO2 of the titanium surface with hydrochloric acid.

Hi Diego. You should remove the coating from surface by mechanical or chemical polishing.
