I am working with a tiny thermocouple that has two wires of the size of ~12 µm and a junction size of ~35 µm. I'd like to see if there is any way (mechanical, chemical, ...) I can remove a thin layer from the junction so that it becomes smaller?

The thermocouple consists of Alumel and Chromel (K-type) which are mostly made up of Nickel.

Thanks.
