I need to react one of the chlorine atom in S-triazine with the surface of polyethylene to use the others as a carrier for temperature sensing materials or gas sensors
If you want to make this process, you have to modify PE with another specif compound that it can then react with S-triazine and finally prepare the PE with wanted properties
Grafting of hydroxyl containing monomer (HEMA etc.) on PE by using UV/gamma radiation or by in-situ method using extruder gives -OH functionality to PE. Now it can be reacted with Cl on S-triazine derivative.
The easiest way is to start from maleic anhydride grafted LLDPE, which is commercially available e.g. from DOW under the trade name AMPLIFY GR 380. Little amounts (250g) are also available from SIGMAALDRICH, CASNo 9006-26-2. This material can be treated with ethanolamine, mercaptoethylamine (cysteamine) or trimethylethylenediamine to result in a hydroxy, mercapto or methylamino functional polyethylene. At the same time the primary amino group forms an imide with the cyclic anhydride. The hydroxy, mercapto or methylamino group is reactive towards cyanurchloride.
