I am looking for results (publications) of previous research on numerical analyses of road embankments (linear road infrastructure) subject to various deformations. I am trying to develop a procedure that could help to predict stability of road embankments subject to large subsoil displacements due to activity of coal mines.
You could model it, or you could put two or more layers of geotextiles several
feet below the roadway to distribute the deformations caused by differential
settlements, top it with layers of aggregates, and then use flexible pavements
like asphalts that do not have polymers in them. The idea is to let it
flex and change shape without fracturing.
You would also have to understand that it will need to be milled off
every few years, have leveling courses applied, and then a top mat.
it could be active for up to 100 years or more.
The problem is similar to constructing a new roadway over a capped
landfill. It never stops moving, and settling due to changing water table
elevations, and differential decay and compression rates.
