I took a vessel with insulated walls and add water in it, heated up by burning the biogas in stove and note the initail and final temperature and noted down the amount of gas burnt and calculated as:
heat content of vessel+heat content of water= approximate heat content of biogas without considering the heat loss.

In my opinion, the measurement methodology is correct. You only need to determine the unit converter.

Abdullah,
And don't forget to run the heater *without* any water present (or with two different volumes of water). While the heat capacity of water is high, the vessel itself may not be negligible.
