I have been working on the Etherswitch in INET. How can we make an etherhost request only after an etherhost reply to its previous request. First request will be directly to an etherhost. I was able to make one of the etherhost to be controller and make him send requests and not all but this controller is sending requests randomly and not it gets a reply from other etherhost. Does anyone has any idea what can be done in this case ?
In this case you should change the source used in the node. The behavior that you are describing is caused by the source used in the node.
Yes, I figured it out but the problem is I couldn't figure out what to change in the source code of the client.
The implementation can be at several levels, you can change the behavior at link layer, network layer or in application layer level. I am not sure if you want to modify the actual 802.3 standards, but if you don’t need to modify the standard, the logical is to implement the changes in the application layer because they don’t affect to the actual protocols and standards. In this case, you need to send the frame to the intermediate node and the application of the intermediate node will re-send the frame.
the application packet will has like a field the final address but the network address used by the initial node will be the intermediate node.
In any case, if you are using a switch, until the switch learn the address, any frame will be replicated and sent by all switch ports
Thank you for the information. Definitely, we cant change the Ethernet standard. I am planning to change it at application level. To be precise in the Client and the servers of the Etherhosts.
