Hi all, i am developing a metamaterial and i want it to operate on wider frequency bandwidth, what are some of the techniques that i can use to increase the bandwdth frequency without changing the resonant frequency of the metamaterial, Any equation on how to increase the frequency will help as well. kindly help, Thank you.
Dear Fauth, To be able to develop a pass band filter with a metamaterial, sometimes the frequency bandwidth is too narrow and now my question is on how to widen this frequency band around the resonating frequency, I am intending to develop a near zero index metamaterial and determine its filter behavior.
You may consider inclusion of resonating particles like spheres into you material. If the size of the particles will be distributed wider than "monochromatic" you should have a wider resonance. Note that voids are also "scattering particles", so foam-like structures might work for you depending on frequency and material dielectric constant. There are no formulas for densely packed media, but you can try to average Mie solution for scattering amplitudes over size distribution if the particles are more or less spherical. Or do numerical solution of Maxwell equations for heterogeneous media, but it requires a lot of computing power.
