I did oxidation of isopropanol to acetone in water and reflux conditions. Acetone is very volatile to identify with TLC and also the iodine chamber. How can I identify it?
I think you can perform a test to identify ketones, and thus be able to identify if you obtained acetone, since it is a very volatile solvent and in TLC it evaporates quickly.
Thank you, dear Edgar. Your answer is true. However, except for using methods such as GC, how can I follow the completion of the reaction (isopropanol conversion to acetone)? Have you a simple solution to this?
