As you probably know most published papers identify 'areas for further research' as part of their concluding thoughts.  Therefore a literature review would serve the dual purpose of providing you ideas for further research and would give you a head start for your thesis write-up.  

My thesis was on finance but I did notice that many of the databases used for research purposes contained errors as outlined on page 99-104 and Appendix 5 of the attached.  To overcome this I ended up creating my own database for knowledge management purposes.

Yes there is huge scope of research in this Academic research and knowledge management area.  Very few literature is available for the same. As per my study not a single university has implemented Knowledge management system for academic research community.  So really there is need to focus on this area.  So if you are interested then you can think about it.
