The attached image shows chromatograms from the same FAME sample run three times on our GC-MS. As seen, additional peaks show up if running the sample several times. From the MS spectra the additional peaks seem to be plasticizers. If I heat the column to max for 30 min and then rerun the sample the peaks are gone. The additional peaks elute at approximately the same in all samples. I have tried changing septum, liner, injector needle, needle wash whiteout any improvements. Any suggestion how to lose these peaks? Thanks in advance.
Yes, the plasticizers are gone after bake-out but reappear after repeated injections. I haven´t cleaned the inlet and split line, I will try that. Thanks for the tip!
Dear Anders, What method did you use to get rid of plasticizers in GC-MS samples?
Dear Peter, in the end what helped was to try to reduce the steps during extraction where I was using plastic pipette tips to Pasteur glass pipettes. And in the case where I need to use plastic tips I am now only using Eppendorf tips instead on “no name” brands. Good luck with your analysis!
Dear Anders, thanks for your prompt replied. Well, in the case of reducing the extraction step, I think is not related to the presents of plasticizes in the crude lipid or EE-oil. I have come across that steps, and still having numbers of plasticizers in my samples. Moreover, I know the source of plasticizers but I want to figure out which method would be potential and beneficial to formulate using GC only instead of GC-MS.
