The contact angle of the drop image can be calculated by using a plugin named Low-Bond Axisymmetric Drop Shape Analysis (LBADSA) in image J available for free.

Try ImageJ. ImageJ is  a free software that is designed with an open architecture by National Institutes of Health.  I know several people are using this software for image processing and also for contact angle analysis.

In my opinion, the most easy way to measure Contact Angle is using photoshop. This software has a tool to measure angles in pictures.

 I ask your kind support. I use version 1.46 of ImageJ with plugin Drop Analysis to measure Contact Angle. However I can’t use the buttons of fast snake and no red corrected angle values appears, how can I do?

Is there a particular reason to use fast snake. If not try the LBADSA model which is much simple. Please look at my comment above.

Hello, I am joinig this thread as it seems like you guys have a lot of experience with ImageJ and LB-ADSA. I read a user manual for DropSnake and LB-ADSA (see link) and find it very interesting and helpful for some droplet analysis. I have little experience with image processing, droplet analysis and experiments with droplets. 

In the user manual for the LB-ADSA method, a step in the "Typical utilization" is to ensure that the image scale is correctly set under the "settings" menu. How am I able to ensure this? The settings asks for "Smoothing sigma", "Scale [pixels/mm], "Convergence criterium on CA", "Drop Mean pixels value" and "non-drop mean pixels value". These are pre-filled with values, but I cannot really correlate these values to the droplet image at hand. Does anyone, for example, have a reference to where I can read more about this to understand what these settings actually mean to achieve an accurate droplet analysis?

I would really appreciate any help!

I am joining the conversation. I am trying to use the plug-in DropSnake to measure surface tension of water on treated surfaces but I am having some issues. Is anyone using it at the moment? Do you find the software more accurate compared with measuring the contact angle with a microscope software or by simply using imageJ function to measure the angle?

An other option is to use the DropToolKit sofware (download it from https://www.chemeng.ntua.gr/people/pathan/software.php).

It is a Python-based, axisymmetric drop shape analysis (ADSA) library to measure the interfacial tension and the Young contact angle of a droplet.

From my opinion measuring and analyzing contact angle of dynamically performed contact angle measurement isn't an easy task (all which leads to advancing and receding angles). Simple static measurements are in general insufficient. Hence analyzing one image might lead to huge errors depending on the operator, …. Indeed photoshop is a good solution for one image but with nowadays frame rate thousands of image can be analyzed.

Axisymmetric drop shape analysis cannot be performed for most surfaces. Polynomic-based procedures suffer also from the problem that the gradient at the boundary of the fitting range (which is highly error-prone) is used to calculate the contact angle. For example, no one would calculate the concentration of solution beyond the calibration. If you are interested in a more reasonable approach take a look at the “HPDSA” and the published “statistical contact angle analysis procedures” (for example in the book of Kash Mittal Advances in Contact Angle, Wettability and Adhesion, Vol. 6, K.L. Mittal(Ed.), Wiley-Scrivener, Beverly, MA (2018)). A rudimentary software (including all of the procedures for the HPDSA) can be found on my side.
