Many studies have been done in finding optimal sensor/monitoring station placement in a water distribution network(WDN). But to the best of knowledge no such work has been done in sewer network. As we know the flow in a sewer network is primarily gravity driven, some approaches generally used in the case of WDN such a 'maximum coverage' will not be appropriate in this case. Can anyone please suggest me any appropriate method that I can successfully implement in a sewer network?

I am working on a sewer network with around 2000 nodes with an approximate area of 12 km2. I have to choose the optimal position of 5 monitoring stations. The sewer network convey only dry weather sanitary flow.

Thanks a lot!
