we annealing Haynes 188 (Co-base alloy) in different temperature and after we observed some twining in it (annealing twin). i want comparison whit together, i estimate volume fraction of twin boundary within each other. is this work true? please guide me.
If you can use the EBSD, this is the one of best and easiest way for quantitative measurement of the twin fraction. In the case of using these OM images, make a grid on the image, count the grid with annealing twin, divide the total number of grids, and you can calculate the twin fraction. Obviously, for the more accurate analysis, the size of grid on each image should be same.
Sometimes I used this simple technique even in the EBSD analysis for counting mechanical twins. Due to the resolution of EBSD, mechanical twin with narrow width could not be detected occasionally. Of course, for more quantitative analysis, EBSD analysis should be conducted using small step size, low current and long exposure time. However this is very time-consuming experiments. So sometimes I prefer this simple techniques for measure the fraction of mechanical twins.
