I need to synthesize TBA salt of hyaluronic acid, and for doing so I first need to convert my sodium hyaluronate to hyaluronic acid and then neutralize it with TBA. This step is mostly done via ion exchange resins but I currently do not have access to it and want to perform it via HCl. I am unsure about the volume of acid and ethanol needed and the temperature and timing of the reaction for optimal efficacy.
If I understood well you want to synthetize a Tetrabutyl amonium salt of hyaluronic acid, isn't it?
So, why you don't try with Tetrabutyl amonium cloride and your sodium hialuronate disolved in methanol, if it's necessary to heat it up a bit do it and I expect a precipitation of NaCl salt. Then just remove the MeOH with vaccum.
Is just a suggestion, maybe it can work well.

I actually want to use tributylamine rather than tetrabutyl amunnium. Anyway since my goal is to make my hyaluronic acid soluble in organic solvents, tetrabutyl amunnium will work as well, but I prefer to use tributylamine to lower steric hinderance effects. @Ernesto Emmanuel López
Dear all, basically all carboxylate groups are converted to carboxylic acid groups below a pH 2.24, but knowing the sensitivity to degradation I am afraid neutralization does not work. But I think it is worth trying. After neutralization you can eliminate salt by membrane dyalisis again water if the molecular weight is sufficiently high. My Regards
