I need to find the plastic modulus of soil samples consisting mainly sandy and gravely material. How can I determine it? Is there any special apparatus or is it from the stress-strain curve? For your information, the sample is in a loose state.

Loading, unloading and reloading relationships according to any of the well-known standards may give you the required parameters.

What do you mean by the "plastic modulus"? Why do you need it? Is it connected to any specific constitutive model for granular soils?

Hello Krzysztof Sternik , I am fairly new to this modulus. I have made some research and found relatively very few articles about it. The other name I think is “Modulus of plasticity”. The only thing I know is: It may be determined from the stress-strain curve within the plastic behaviour range. Hope that someone can help me with this problem.
Deformation modulus (E) depends on the load level. At some load level, the modulus is equal to the ratio (deviation stress / strain). From the stress and strain relationship curve (obtained from the triaxial compression test) corresponding to certain load levels, you will determine E.

If a soil or granular material specimen of unconfind compression or CBR mold size is subjected to repeated loading, and the deformation is monitored, you can get three types of deformation, the total, the permanent and the resielnt. Then if you divide the load by the permanent deformation you can get the plastic modulus

There are variety of constitutive models for granular soils that capture the plastic behaviour of materials and they are implemented in many of numerical software.

The material is in a loose state and has a well gradation from gravel to clay size particles.
