Hi, I have performed quasi-static indentation (QSI) test in accordance with ASTM D 6264 on a number of natural fibre composites to assess the maximum energy absorbed by the composites. I am interested in doing drop weight impact (LVI) test to compare/ find any relationship with QSI test. How can I determine the input energy (J) for LVI test based on the QSI energy results that I obtained for the composites? since LVI is a dynamic impact some part of this energy will be dissipated which needs to be accounted. for this case, the fixtures (boundary conditions) and materials dimensions are identical for both tests. How can I determine my input energy range for my LVI test based on QSI test result? or any other way to predict the range of energy?Thank you.
As a first attempt and starting from the fact that
the QSI energy results you obtained are equal to m.g.h;as reference where :
g is gravity
m the impactor mass
h is the heigt
So you may have to manage m and h with the constraints of your set-up, for similar damage states in both tests. the dynamic effects and the material strain rate sensitivity may influence the LVI input energy. In my opinion the answer is strictly experimental.

You will have to measure the rebound height accurately after impact ,to measure the energy absorbed by the sample.
You can also apply the trapezoidal rule to determine the amount energy absorbed.
