I have a high interests in crab burrowing and the morphology, but now it is difficult to select a plant species in mitten crab culture, this plant must have stronger effects on crab burrow.
First you should know about the tidal rhythm of this crab. It will go inside the burrow during high tide by closing the same and very active during the low tide. By studying the tidal rhythm you can design plan your experiment. Thank you
Hi, Eriocheir sinensis goes up the rivers up to more than 1.000 kilometers and lives in the fresh water, only for mating they go back to the sea. So I think the tidal rhythm would not play a major role regarding the burrowing.
BTW: I would suggest to contact https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Stephan_Gollasch who researched a lot in Chinese mitten crabs in Germany including the effects on dams by burrowing AFAIR.
