I am wondering is there any computable form describing the relationship between certain characteristics (e.g. the benefit) of renewable energy projects such as wind turbines and PV projects and people's acceptabiity of the projects.
If the renewable energy projects are applicable to the society such as development of rural areas, development of agriculture and rsidensial and industrial applications then people will automatically accept the projects.
World is concentrating towards the smart grid and distributed generation concepts. So choosing a good topic that can provide a +ve out come will be appreciated greatly by the people
In all federal USA projects, the defacto standard for project worthiness is the utilization of DOE/NIST BLCC Lifecycle Cost Analysis. It is a free download and it calculates not only financial performance, but also Carbon reductions as well. Savings metrics include savings to investment ratio (SIR), simple payback, AIRR and more, based on the funding structure.
If you want to check the acceptability of the project based on their usefulness, you may want to ascertain the difference in response of the public when explained about different advantages of the project to them.
For that you may need to carry out questionnaire survey in the same group of people or different group of people with little statistical difference and check their responses for differing qualities of the technology.
Govt should come forward to encourage projects pertaining to renewable energy, in form of giving subscidaries, land and other facilities like government clearance. Projects related to renewable energy will strengthen rural economy by providing employement opportunities to rural youth. The general problems faced by rural sector like power, water, etc. can be solved to some extent by adopting renewable energy technnology. People can accept these projects without any difficulty.
I think you can use a choice experiment stated preference approach to elicit information from the public. This will involve using a survey. The questions will be designed to include several renewable energy attributes (and cost) in different choice profiles as against the fossil fuel alternative(s).
Renewable energy projects are the only way to go for the future and the people know that. In your area, people have suffered enough from the typhoons which have become big killers due to a warming climate.
In my humble opinion, high social acceptance is a great indicator that the project is important and needs to be seriously considered. However, since my company is classified as a Performance Contractor, I am constrained to follow the Life Cycle Cost (LCC), which deals with tangible savings. I am also in an area where fossil-based energy costs are low. The good news to this exercise is all of us are now coming up with verifiable costs and savings created by the interaction between the technology, worker, and environment which is now making renewable projects cash flow. If you narrow that gap by quantifying costs and savings, you also increase social acceptance.
