I accidentally turn the pipette with liquid inside the tip upside down. i think the liquid might enter the tip holder. So, what i'm supposed to do to clean it?
Autoclaving is the most secure method of inactivating the contamination but sometimes only the lower part of a pipette can be autoclaved and sometimes the whole pipette is not heat-stable. Check manufacturer manual of the pipette for more information.
Which kind of pipette? Classic single channel? Which volume?
for P1000, P200 and P20, you can remove the tip holder, clean the inside with EtOH70% , dry up with paper or air flow and re-assemble the pipette.
Pay attention to not lost any part (eg O-ring on the piston).
For smaller volumes (p2 or p10) the inside piston is very small and if you are not expert you may risk to damage it therefore in this case i suggest to do not do it by your self.
Coincidentally, I'm preparing right now a Simple video for this procedure to be uploaded on my blog:
ProteoCool (https://proteocool.blogspot.com/) but it is still under preparation.
Attached you can find some pictures of a disassembled P1000.
In general, the calibration is contained between the plunger and the adjustment setting. In Manuele's excellent attachment, the calibrated portion is under the very left side plunger where your thumb goes. And even then, you need a tool to make the adjustment. If parts were replaced, then a verification would be necessary, but if the parts are replaced in the same unit, a recalibration should not be needed.
In case that could be usefull to someone i just uploaded a video with more details about pipette de-assembly, cleaning and reassembly at PAGE7 on ProteoCool https://proteocool.blogspot.com/
