It’s a fairly simple problem that your Excel expert can help with. Basically if your Excel column has hourly data, then the next column over, you start with 0 + row 1 with first hour amount, next row, take row 1 total + row 2, next row, take row 2 total + row 3, so basically now you have the three hour total. Then the next three rows with hourly amounts, your new column again starts with 0 + the fourth hour cell, next new cell adds the fifth hour to the fourth, then next row cell adds the sixth hour to the fourth and fifth sum. This is done over and over, and your Excel expert can show you how to replicate this over and over by holding the cursor in the bottom of the top row of totaling cells and holding the left mouse, one can scroll down and copy this over and over along the listing of rows, so every 3 hours, you start at 0, then add in each of the next three hours for the three hour totals. There are probably some other Excel tricks that might even make this easier. Basically with practice, this takes just a few minutes. To make it easier to highlight every 3 hour total, you can highlight every third cell with yellow through your initial copying mentioned. It’s actually harder to explain what to do than to do it. A problem may arise if you have missing data, or have areas with half hour amounts, but you could convert those data to one hour data, and then combine it with the other one hour data.

Just to clarify, the new column cells contain basically equations pertaining to your former column hourly data. An Excel expert or Excel book would explain these. The new column of cells has each row with the equation as previously summarized. Excel also has some statistical and graphical capability that may help you compare data, or plot the data in a time series for visual comparison. It would be good to know the size of the satellite area estimates as compared to the data collection site(s). In areas of complex topography, rainfall variation can vary with location and elevation, so one or just a few field data collection points may or may not compare well with satellite data, especially during periods of localized thunderstorms.

You can use a combination formula such as SUM(OFFSET(ROW).

Very simple. Select the time window of desired duration kΔt; k is the multiplier of time step (Δt) at which data is available. Determine the sum and place it the end of the location in the adjacent column. Drag it downward up to the end of the time series. The time series of desired duration is ready.
