I am working in a research to develop neural networks sorghum forecasting models. Rainfall and satellite image vegetation indices are used for ANN input and Sorghum yield (as output).
Since sorghum is used for human food and animal feed, your research will contribute to food security, and alleviation of hunger. It's an honor to be able to put food on the table, and prevent hunger and its effects. And if you also develop recipes for using sorghum, it would be a bonus to the country.
"While total food consumption of all cereals has risen considerably during the past 35 years, world food consumption of sorghum has remained stagnant, mainly because, although nutritionally sorghum compares well with other grains, it is regarded in many countries as an inferior grain. Per caput consumption of sorghum is high in countries or areas where climate does not allow the economic production of other cereals and where per caput incomes are relatively low. These include especially the countries bordering the southern fringes of the Sahara, including Ethiopia and Somalia, where the national average per caput consumption of sorghum can reach up to 100 kg per year."
Thank you so much Miranda for quick reply. Inform that I get the idea after reading the points. Additionally Sorghum is chosen in the research because it is the staple in Sudanese food basket. So, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN)model could be customized to forecast crops in the harvested in a target region/area using rainfall, vegetation indices or other relevant factors. ANN can be used to collect data, develop and investigate forecasting models/scenarios applied in this research.
