I want to synthesis TiO2 Nanostructure Using Hydrothermal Methods, unfortunately the Teflon beaker has Nanosticks; not washed it properly after someone else used the beaker to synthesis TiO2 previously. Thus, Could you tell me please, the mechanism/the way to clean the Teflon beaker. Thank you in Advance!
You may use some solvents that can dissolve TiO2 otherwise Teflon may be cleaned using HNO3. The half of the Teflon beaker have to be filled by HNO3 and then beaker have to be kept in oven (@ 100 deg C) for 1 or 2 hrs.
TiO2 is tough and dissolves only in Hydrofluoric acid or concn. H2SO4.. but Teflon is more resistant to H2SO4 when compared to HF.. so repeated cleaning with concn.H2SO4 will remove most of your TiO2 crystals.
I normally use hot sulphuric acid. It works pretty well although you may need more than one wash to clean it thoroughly.
I agree with Andrea Folli, also suggesting cleaning with hot sulphuric acid followed by neutralization with diluted aqueous alkaline solution and final rinsing with deionized or distilled water.
