I did a heat treatment of a starch based compound under argon flow at 800°C. After that, I carried out an oven cleaning tratement in air at 1500°C in order to remove all the organic compounds. However some areas of the alumina tube remain dark despite the heat treatments, in particular near the openings.
Any suggestions to completely remove the dark parts?
The oven is a Nabertherm RHTH 120-300/18 with an horizontal alumina tube.
I would prefer not to dismantle the tube.

Does this deposit affect the performance of the tube or is it simply a cosmetic effect?

Alan F Rawle the oven still works well, however, I fear contamination from the dark parts that I have not been able to eliminate.
If the deposit is carbon then I'd try an oxygen plasma etch. But if this material has diffused into the bulk of the alumina then there's little you can do other than replace the tube. However, if the material has diffused into the bulk then it's not likely to affect the performance.
Replace alumina tube. Clean by cerosin fuel. May be use a headandsholder shampoo too. It can do it. Siple action
