Unfortunately I think SciFinder and Reaxys provide a more thorough and acceptable search than any alternative. You could first do a literature search, then search PubChem, ChemSpider or eMolecules (you can do a structure search directly from ChemSketch) but this will still not be considered novel until it has passed SciFinder search. So you may wish to first do literature search, then search ChemSpider, etc. When your structures pass these search, you'll have more confidence so find a trustworthy person with SciFinder access and send them your structures to confirm. In addition to literature search, a good idea might be to also search for your molecule in patents and patent applications. There are some free tools available to do that: PATENTSCOPE by wipo and SureChEMBL patent search are two of such tools that allow to search by the structure.

Developing a new material needs boundless time and effort. Firstly, you have to identify the accurate name of your specific product and its family. Then, google scholar search plays an important role in this matter. In my personal experience, software such PubChem or ChemSpider cannot always be reliable owing to the different names of compounds. Be conscious of searching all possible names of your target.
