system('abaqus job=Input_file_name user=UEL_file_name.f' )

Thank you for the reply. The command you mentioned works well without UEL and not with it.

is there an error? Do you have the .f file in the same folder as your inp file?

The .m, .f and .inp are in the same folder. The abaqus command window also starts in the same folder, if it matters. When I run the matlab command you suggested a .log and a .com file is created. The .log file states an error as below,

"ifort' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

Abaqus Error: Problem during compilation - PPR.f

Abaqus/Analysis exited with errors"

The UEL, PPR.f works well from abaqus command. I am working on Widows 8.

Hello, I tried to run an analysis the same way you did and got the same error. Apparently, when you run inside matlab, the fortran compiler is not linked.
