Supposing a system, which can be modeled with DAEs, has also got discrete states, which means that it is a hybrid DAE system. Is there any systematic algorithm to calculate the differential index of such a system? I am not sure that the structural analysis can provide the index of such a hybrid system. Any ideas?
Dear Arash, i think that metaheuristic methods are so effective to calculate esp in hybrid systems.
Are you looking for limit cycles? What is the underlying dimension of your space (e.g. is it piecewise planar)?
Peter Thomas : It is not necessarily just limited cycles; however, the number of operating states, i.e. the possible different values for the solitary discrete state, is limited to 2. The dimension of the space is more than 2 and by my understanding it is not piece-wise planar.
As a matter of fact, I am wondering if it is important to estimate a unique number as the index of the whole system (e.g. the maximum value of the index at each state) or it is enough to estimate the index for each discrete state. What I mean is that is it necessary to introduce such a system with one value of index, which can be the maximum value?
