I am finding realism in all sorts of genres, including science/fantasy/speculative fiction and many other genres. How can I explain the existence of realism in the genres that are not categorized as realist? How can I go about arguing my finds? What specific vocabulary should I use? I am at an impasse and I will be grateful for all your wisdom and suggestions.

In my opinion, in a situation where the authors of an artistic work from the genre of science fiction, fantasy, crime fiction, thriller deviate too much from realism, when the plot concerns issues not related to what people live, then it is less acceptable to the public, reviews are more critical and a work of art can quickly be forgotten. Therefore, maintaining an appropriate level of realism is crucial. But to make it possible, i.e. to apply an appropriate level of realism, the creators of an artistic work must know what citizens live and what problems are at the top of the general social awareness of citizens.

A literary text might not be categorized as realist but researchers might find out elements of realism. If you have theoretical logics and if you find relevant textual references, you can easily relate them and explain. Thank you for your question and this is what I do while analyzing elements of such thing that is not explicitly recognized yet.
