How can experimentally determine (or theoretically calculate the refractive index of a mixture of oxides): Y2O3, CuO, BaCO3? The refractive index for Y2O3 (mass - m1) - n = 1.935, CuO (mass - m2) - n = 2.630, BaCO3 (mass - m3) - n = 1.529. Thank you for your help.
Gladstone-Dale rules and Mie. The RI's of the weighted volumes of the components will give you an estimate of the mixed RI. So you need to know the densities of the components to convert mass to volume. Anything less than 10 volume % won't contribute much to the overall RI. See slides 21 and onwards in:
