Hello. I first treated glass substrates with piranha, coated them with gold, then attempted to do a surface modification with MUA dissolved in DMF. Once adding the DMF solution, the gold layer got cracked and some parts detached in a few seconds as seen in the attached image.
This problem was not manifested when using EtOH as a solvent of MUA, but the problem with this method is that the gold surface was covered with an inhomogeneous white layer.
1/ What can be the reason for gold layer cracking? What did DMF do?
2/ How can the white MUA layer be homogeneous on the gold surface?

Hi Zineb, ı am dissolving my polymers in dmf and coat them, our electrodes gold and aluminium. There is no issue with that. I assume there is another reason.
Aybüke Tavaslı Thanks :) are your substrates made of glass? If yes, do you use any adhesion layer between the glass and the gold layer?
Yes, the substrate is glass, but ı coat dielectric and then semiconductor (polymer), and ı coat gold with mask onto them.
Aybüke Tavaslı I see. This would be different because our main problem is the gold adhesion to glass. what is your dielectric layer?
Pvdf-hfp. I coat Al on glass, and if the thickness is so much, Al peels from the surface of glass. So maybe the main reason is the thickness of your gold. ?
Aybüke Tavaslı That could be, but we need such high thickness, thus we need to solve the gold adhesion problem instead of decreasing its thickness. Thank you for your help dear Aybüke :)
