I'm doing research on a parabolic trough and using TRNSYS as a simulation tool. However, in TRNSYS, it does not have parabolic component in any function. So, how can I join parabolic collector with my system together?
which Trnsys version you are using?
do not you have Tess library in addition to Trnsys standard components?
2 possibilities (at least) :
(1) Have a look at the freeware System Advisor Model (https://sam.nrel.gov/) that uses TRNSYS to simulate, namely, parabolic through. The source codes are embedded in the software.
(2) Use the simple formula given for example by Meyer et al. (2009) to simply transform Direct Normal Irradiance into Effective Direct Irradiance for typical North-South aligned parabolic through :
sqrt(1-cos(sun_elevation)^2*cos(sun_azimut)^2)*DNI
(Note: this is an approximation that do not account for circumsolar normal irradiance for the given aperture angle of the PT into consideration).
