How binding energy can be explained with decreasing grain size when Fe is doped in TiO2 nano particle?

The explanation that with Fe concentration increasing, the grain size decreases is rather ambiguous for this binding energy of Ti-O and Fe-O should be compared.If Fe-O binding energy is weak, that makes sense but I am unable to explain it that how binding energy can be explained with decreasing grain size. Please help me or suggest me any paper to which I can cite?
