It seems easiest to me, to simply remember 'la' as the home key, then most everything else is the same. Several students struggle with singing a minor scale from doh, but can sing la ti do without any problems.
I achieved the most success with this by not telling the students that it was minor at first. I would transition from major to natural minor while still playing the starting chord of the relative major. The students would then sing the major scale to find the starting pitch of La. We would spend a couple of weeks this way before I pointed out that they had been singing in natural minor all along.
