researchers used Ahmed model for the investigation of various numerical investigation to reduce the drag of the vehicle with different slant angles.how far the Ahmed body is similar to a standard car model i.e a sedan car .
The purpose of the Ahmed body is not to reproduce the flow around a particular sedan car. It is rather intended to provide a general reference with a lot of available experimental and numerical data to test the types of flows you do find in cars. That is: vortices behind the car, straight body, ground interaction, and blunt nose.
It is a good model to test a computational method or a general body modification prior to going-on with a more thorough analysis with an actual car geometry for which obtaining wind-tunnel data is costly and creating a mesh is a lengthy process.
Te Ahmed body is a (very) modelized car for investigations and comparisons with benchmark results which are numerous in the literature. For instance, I would recommend to watch in the site of Eric Serre in the same laboratory as me Lab M2P2 CNRS Aix Marseille University and who is in research gate. He made several papers in the last years with Richard Pasquetti also in RG from University of Nice Lab J.A. Dieudonné. Different cases of angles of the walls are available in the Ahmed geometry standard. One thesis carried out with E. Serre some years ago.
