In ResearchGate, it is not possible to add references manually. ResearchGate may add them automatically from other databases or may recognize them automatically in your file. However, in many (or even most) cases this does not work. Some years ago, at the beginning of ResearchGate, it was possible to add references manually, but unfortunately this feature has gone.

I would create a file using the same title as the poster leading off with "References for poster entitled:" Upload it as a research item.

Just have an watch on your right / bottom of your publication poster for references .

This is a major UX problem. Research Gate does not contain all possible sources in its reference database, yet offers no way to manually add sources ... making its citation feature desperately shallow.
