I am seeing some strange constant fluctuation of force during a high temperature tensile testing of Inconel 625 only at the temperature range in between 500 and 800 as shown in the attached image. The specimen keeps making clinking noise during the test as well. I do not see this effect at above or below these temperatures. Does any one have an explanation of this?

The cause of the pulsations in the 500 to 800 degree temperature range is due to the onset of crystal changes (thermal recrystallization process). In this range, the beans are sprouted. However, due to the applied load, re-drilling and shredding of these steels is also carried out. This effect is also known as the Portevin-Le Chatelier (PLC) barrier boundaries.
