The first questionnaire contains responses of parents as the independent variable. The second contain responses of middle age children as the independent variable.
How do I go about inputting it into SPSS and what data would be best to use.

It's really difficult to answer your question without more detail. Can I assume that the parents & children are matched, such that they are parent-child pairs with exactly one parent and one child in each pair? If so, then it would be important to have each matched pair assigned to a different line (case number) in the data file.

In Variable View, begin by entering the parents' variables, then enter all the child's variables; I suggest that you use variable names that keep track of parents vs children, e.g., PV1, PV2....CV1, CV2.... In Data View, each pair gets a single line of entries. It's as if the participant is a pair rather than an individual. I wish I could be clearer.
