In order to investigate if there are any differences on the proteins level between three larvae cultures grown on three different diets (Oat, polyethylene, Polystyrene, we are considering to grind some whole individuals of the larvae cultures and run it on the SDS-gel. would that work? Thank you.

this is for sure possible. You can grind them manually or using a device (bead homogenizer) in nitrogen. Or you use some buffer und simply homogenize using a blender. I guess you will have a reasonal amount of animals. So this may be the easiest way. You may want your gear and buffer cooled and also use a reasonable buffer to protect protens from degradation etc.
