Although hot mirror refelect IR light and transmitt vissible light. but not 100%. similarly for cold mirror also. So am looking for materials which can reflect 100% IR and transmit 100% Vis light and vice versa.
IR light is a very general term and different materials have cut off points at varying wavelengths. Generally for IR spectroscopy we deal with the mid IR region i.e. approx. 2-15 microns (4000 -600 cm-1). Glass transmits visible light but cuts off IR across this region. Most materials above 10-12 microns thick also totally absorb IR in this region. Germanium is IR transparent approx. 5500 - 600 cm-1 whilst totally opaque as is Silicon which transmits IR 8300-1600 and 400-35 cm-1. There is a variety of window materials with different ranges of IR transmission. It is horses for courses depending on your application.
